FAQ
Flooring Questions, Answered
Straight answers about choosing a floor, getting ready for install day, and how working with Craftedge Floors works.
Choosing a floor
LVP or laminate: which is better?
Both are wood-look floors that click together and float over the subfloor. LVP has a vinyl core, so it handles water much better. That makes it the pick for basements, kitchens, bathrooms and homes with spills. Laminate has a harder top layer that resists scratches really well, and it's great in dry rooms like bedrooms and living rooms.
LVP or hardwood: which should I choose?
Choose hardwood if you want real wood and it's going on a dry main floor. Choose LVP if you have pets, kids, a basement, or rooms where water is a risk. LVP is tougher and easier to care for. Hardwood has a natural look and feel that nothing else fully copies.
What's the best flooring for a basement?
For most basements, luxury vinyl plank is the best choice. It handles moisture far better than hardwood or laminate. Tile is another good option. Before any basement floor goes in, the concrete should be checked for moisture and flatness, and we do that at your free estimate.
What's the best flooring for pets?
LVP is a great all-round pick for pets because it resists scratches and handles accidents and water bowls. Laminate is very scratch-resistant too, but standing water is harder on it. Real hardwood scratches and dents more easily.
What's the best flooring for a rental property?
Landlords often choose LVP. It's durable, easy to clean between tenants, and handles spills. A damaged plank can often be replaced without redoing the whole room. Laminate is also a good value option for dry rooms.
Can new flooring go over old flooring?
Sometimes. Some floating floors can go over old flooring that's flat, solid and well attached. Carpet always comes out. Soft, damaged or uneven floors need to come out too, or the new floor won't last. We check what you have at your free estimate and give you a straight answer.

The job itself
How long does flooring installation take?
It depends on the size of the space, the type of floor, and how much prep the subfloor needs. A single room is much quicker than a full main floor with stairs. We'll give you a time estimate for your project when we come out to measure.
How do I prepare my home for new floors?
Clear small items, breakables and anything stored on the floor. Have a plan for furniture before install day, and tell us at your estimate if moving it is a problem. If you're supplying your own flooring, have it on site before install day. Some products need to sit in your home first, and we'll tell you if yours does. Plan for some noise and dust while old floors come out.
Do you take out and get rid of the old flooring?
Yes. We remove old flooring and dispose of it, and we prep and level the subfloor so your new floor sits flat.
Can you do the stairs and baseboards too?
Yes. We redo stairs to match your new floor and install baseboards and trim to finish the job.
What if something isn't right after the install?
If anything is wrong with our installation, we come back and make it right. And we don't leave a job site until it's perfect in the first place.
Are you insured?
Yes. Craftedge Floors is insured and WCB covered.
