What is glue-down flooring?

A glue-down floor is held in place with adhesive spread on the subfloor. It doesn't click together and float like LVP or laminate.

Because every piece is stuck down, the floor feels solid. It doesn't shift, and it handles rolling loads and heavy traffic well.

Who it is best for

  • Commercial spaces

Offices, stores and other busy areas with lots of foot traffic and rolling chairs or carts.

  • Large open areas

Big spaces where a floating floor might need extra expansion breaks.

  • Rooms with heavy furniture

A bonded floor won't shift under weight.

  • Quieter floors

Less hollow sound underfoot than many floating floors.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Very stable. No shifting or movement
  • Quiet underfoot
  • Handles rolling loads and heavy traffic
  • Fewer transition strips needed in large spaces

Things to know

  • Prep matters even more. The subfloor must be smooth and clean
  • Harder to remove later than a floating floor
  • Usually takes longer to install than click-lock

Our installation process

  1. Measure and check

We check the subfloor closely. Glue-down floors need a smooth, clean, solid base.

  2. Remove and prep

Old flooring comes out. We level and smooth the subfloor as needed.

  3. Spread adhesive and lay

Adhesive goes down in sections and the flooring is set into it carefully.

  4. Roll and set

The floor is pressed down so it bonds evenly across the whole area.

  5. Finish and walkthrough

Trim and transitions, then a full walkthrough with you.

We don’t leave a job site until it’s perfect. If anything is wrong with our installation, we come back and make it right.

How to get ready

  • Choose your flooring, or ask us to source it.
  • Clear the space completely. Glue-down floors need open, empty rooms.
  • Ask us at the estimate how long to stay off the floor after it's installed. It depends on the product.
  • For businesses: tell us your hours so we can plan around them.

Glue-down flooring questions

Glue-down or click-lock: which is better?

Click-lock is faster and great for most homes. Glue-down is more stable and quieter, and it's better for commercial spaces and heavy traffic. We'll recommend one after seeing your space.

What kinds of flooring can be glued down?

Many vinyl products and some other floors are made to be glued down. Check the product, or ask us and we'll tell you if it's a glue-down floor.

Can glue-down flooring go on concrete?

Yes, as long as the concrete is flat, clean and dry enough. We check moisture and flatness first.

Do you do glue-down flooring for businesses?

Yes. We work on residential and commercial projects, with no minimum job size. See our commercial flooring page.
