What is luxury vinyl plank?

Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) is a layered floor made to look like wood. It has a printed wood look on top, a clear wear layer that protects it, and a solid core underneath.

We install click-lock LVP. The planks snap together at the edges and "float" over the subfloor. There's no glue and no nails, so it goes in clean and fast.

Who LVP is best for

  • Basements

Most LVP handles moisture far better than wood or laminate. That makes it a go-to for basements.

  • Kitchens and bathrooms

Spills wipe up. The surface doesn't swell when it gets wet.

  • Homes with pets and kids

A good wear layer stands up to claws, toys and daily traffic.

  • Rentals

Durable and easy to clean between tenants. A damaged plank can often be swapped out.

  • Whole-home updates

One floor can run through the whole main level for a clean, open look.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Highly water-resistant (check the product specs for your pick)
  • Looks like real wood, in lots of colours and styles
  • Comfortable and quieter underfoot than tile
  • Easy to clean. No waxing or special care
  • Stands up well to pets and busy households

Things to know

  • Needs a flat subfloor. Dips and bumps show through and can strain the click joints
  • Cheaper products can look fake. Quality varies a lot between brands
  • Heavy furniture dragged across it can still scratch or dent it
  • Can fade in strong, direct sunlight over time

Our installation process

  1. Measure and check

At your free estimate we measure the rooms and check the subfloor for dips, bumps and moisture.

  2. Remove the old floor

If there's old carpet, tile or other flooring, we take it out and haul it away.

  3. Prep and level

We fix low spots and high spots so the planks sit flat. This step makes the floor last.

  4. Plan the layout

We plan where rows start and end so cuts look balanced and seams don't line up.

  5. Install the planks

Planks click together row by row, with clean cuts around doors, vents and corners.

  6. Finish and walkthrough

Baseboards and trim go on if you've booked them. Then we walk the job with you.

We don’t leave a job site until it’s perfect. If anything is wrong with our installation, we come back and make it right.

LVP questions

Is LVP waterproof?

Most LVP is highly water-resistant. The planks won't swell from spills or mopping. But water that sits under the floor for a long time is still a problem, so leaks need fixing fast.

Can LVP go in a basement?

Yes. It's one of the best choices for basements. We check the concrete for moisture and flatness first, because both affect how well the floor performs.

Can you install LVP over my old floor?

Sometimes. It can go over some flat, solid floors. Carpet always comes out. We'll check what you have at the estimate and tell you straight.

Do you supply the LVP, or can I buy my own?

Either works. We can supply and install, or install flooring you've already bought. We can source and install any major brand.

Can you do my stairs in LVP too?

Yes. We do stairs to match your new floor. See our stair flooring page for how it works.
